Lewannick Play Area

We are seeking to improve facilities for the children of our parish and are focusing on the the play area located next to Lewannick Primary School and Lewannick village green - a popular venue for children's play, appealing to all ages.

We appreciate that it is important to ensure children enjoy good physical and mental health and these contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Focusing on the play area will assist in helping children to play together and not engage in anti-social or offending behaviour.

Now that we have new build developments within the parish the focus for good, motivational play is increasingly important. There will be new families moving into the area and we wish to ensure that they integrate and adjust well to their new community. To have inspiring facilities for children's to play would help to intregrate new families and forge strong community links.

Our current facilities have been well used over the years but need to be improved upon. To achieve our aims we have begun consultatations with the users - the children and their parents - and are seeking letters of support. The users are also being consulted about the equipment they would like to see within the play area. We also wish to link the educational curriculum into our new plans.

We have asked for plans to be drawn-up for a wooden structure and for a colourful play area to establish what type of play themes the users would like. Following on from this we will be consulting with a number of play providers for designs based on these aspirations.

Steam train for
Lewannick Play Area?

A train powered by coal was one of the more imaginative ideas put forward by a member of Lewannick Primary School Council who met with Taylor Made, a local company that designs, plans and builds play equipment together with representatives of Lewannick Parish Council. The meeting took place at the Play Area on Tuesday 14 December to discuss ideas for the future of the Play Area at Lewannick.

The children highlighted the need for equipment suitable for younger children and also suggested a roundabout, see-saw and play cottage. Suggestions by Taylor Made's representative included a play fort on top of the mound and a climbing wall.

We are looking at designing a play area which will give inclusive play for children of all ages, and those with disabilities.

Because of the need to provide safe, durable equipment we will will need to raise many thousands of pounds. Your support and help is vital in obtaining valuable grant funding.

There has been a good response from parents with letters of support but we need more. If you have not written your letter of support yet please do not hesitate. Write care of Lewannick Primary School or Lewannick Parish Council.
