Launceston & District Over 50s Voice

Campaigning for Launceston Pensioners

Background

Originally formed in 2007

Then called Cornwall Senior Citizens Forum / North Cornwall branch

Reformed and renamed after going stand alone in July 2008

Non-political party group

We are run by older people for people aged 50 plus

We decide our own agenda

Share information and raise matters of concern

We provide a platform where older people can speak out on issues concerning them

As well as campaigning, we help to break down isolation by providing opportunities for older members of the community to socialise, meet new people and keep in touch with local news and views

We have a General meeting every 2 months. Meetings at present are at Lewannick Village Hall

At the present time the subscription fee is £3 for a single member and £6 for a couple

What we do

We work with our M.P. and our Councillors and the media to get our message across

Produce materials and information, including Our Voice newsletter

We give free hospital transport to members who are not on benefits

Care Facilitator

Funding is by subscription fees and application for grants

Recent successes

Helped the campaign to stop local Post Office closures and took a leading part in getting the Post Office management to review the other post offices in Cornwall deemed to close

Campaigned to keep open the Doctors Surgery pharmacy in Lewannick and Launceston

We have committee members who are instrumental in getting the issue of Women's pensions to the European Parliament

We challenged the removal of concessionary fees in Adult Education, which is now in the House of Lords.

Campaigning for Park Homes to be included in the Warm Front programme!
